FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.
Heterozygous embryos derived from homozygous female germline clones show normal accumulation of glycogen at all stages.
The anterior en-expressing cells in each segment incorrectly adopt a denticle fate in zygotic arr mutants. Embryos lacking both maternal and zygotic arr function are indistinguishable from wg null mutants. No smooth cuticle is produced in these embryos. arr null mutant cells do not survive as well as their wild-type sister cells when twin spot clones are made. Mutant clones in the dorsal leg show no tissue polarity defects.
arrunspecified mutant embryos have additional denticle bands anterior and posterior to the normal denticle bands, especially in the ventral midline. The phenotype is stronger at 18oC.
arrunspecified has denticle phenotype, suppressible by Scer\GAL4prd.RG1/dshUAS.cAa
arrunspecified has embryonic epidermis phenotype, suppressible by Scer\GAL4prd.RG1/dshUAS.cAa
Smooth cuticle is restored in alternate segments to arrunspecified embryos lacking maternal and zygotic arr function when dshScer\UAS.cAa is expressed in these embryos under the control of Scer\GAL4prd.RG1. Overexpression of wg has no effect on the phenotype of embryos lacking maternal and zygotic arr function.
