Homozygous clones can be recovered in third instar eye imaginal discs. Homozygous clones in the adult eye result in eyes with a disorganised external surface. Variable numbers of ommatidia and photoreceptor cells are present. The central portions of large clones completely lack photoreceptor cells and pigment cells appear to be present in their place. The outer edges of homozygous clones contain ommatidia with variable numbers of photoreceptors. Ommatidia that are genetically homozygous but morphologically normal have not been observed. The nejP/nejTC41 combination gives viable adults with moderately rough eyes.
nejTC41 is a non-enhancer of partially lethal - majority die phenotype of Dfd13/Dfd3
