The location of the P{lacW}l(3)S027714S027714 insertion determined by Southern blotting using the plasmid rescue fragment is between Hsc70Cb and l(3)70Da. However, this location is in conflict with the complementation of the lethal phenotype of l(3)S027714S027714 by Df(3L)D-5rv6. The lethality of the "l(3)S027714" line can be reverted by excision of the P{lacW} element. Together these data suggest that the lethality of the "l(3)S027714" line not be caused by the P{lacW}l(3)S027714S027714 insertion but by some other, transposase sensitive, perhaps internally deleted P-element.
