The addition of a single copy of dl^ΔNLS in wild-type embryos leads to partial lethality (40-50% of embryos hatch).

Embryos derived from females carrying dl^ΔNLS in a dl null background have a severely dorsalised phenotype.

Addition of dl^ΔNLS into a homozygous dl^unspecified null background leads to embryos that are strongly, but not completely dorsalised. If a single copy of dl^ΔNLS is inserted into heterozygous dl^unspecified females, they were sterile and produced weakly dorsalised embryos.
