    Description

FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.

The mitotic index of mutant brains is significantly lower than seen in wild-type. A dose dependant reduction of mitotic index is seen in response to X rays.

Homozygous larval testes are significantly smaller than wild-type testes. Meiotic figures with severe spindle abnormalities at metaphase and anaphase are seen, as well as multiple nuclei of variable volume at telophase. Onion stage spermatids contain abnormal numbers of nuclei of variable size (including micronuclei) associated with a single Nebenkern of normal size.

Mutants have a lowered mitotic index, precocious sister chromatid separation, an increased frequency of anaphases and abnormal anaphases with lagging chromosomes and chromatid bridging.

grpunspecified, BubR1unspecified double mutants exhibit a mitotic index similar to BubR1unspecified when not irradiated, but do not exhibit as great a X ray dose dependent reduction in mitotic index as seen in BubR1unspecified.

Examination of the larval stage central nervous system of Bub1unspecified Cdc27L7123 double mutant shows cells arrested at metaphase at a comparable frequency to the Cdc27L7123 mutant alone. Moreover, the high frequency of anaphases seen in the Bub1unspecified mutant as a result of the malfunctioning checkpoint is replaced in the double mutant by an elevated frequency of metaphase-like figures typical of Cdc27L7123. The appearance of mitotic figures in squashed preparations of Bub1unspecified Cdc27L7123 is indistinguishable from those seen in Cdc27L7123 alone.
