Detailed Description

Homozygotes are viable as late as the pharate adult stage. sv8/Df(4)G animals show embryonic lethality. Homozygotes can survive to the pharate adult stage and have profound bristle defects over the entire body surface. The bristle phenotypes closely resemble those of sv6 homozygotes. The microchaetae of the notum often have empty sockets. Macrochaetae also occasionally show a double socket phenotype. A mild roughening of the eye due to fusion of the ommatidia, and occasional scarring of the lens is seen. A somewhat higher fraction of sv8 homozygotes survive to the pharate adult stage than sv6 or sv7 homozygotes. Interacts very weakly with svspa-pol.
