Flies expressing Rsf1Scer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF show retinal defects, the severity of which depends on the Rsf1Scer\UAS.cLa line used. Weak defects include a reduction in size of the eye, while more severe defects result in eyeless adults. Reduced viability is seen in some flies expressing Rsf1Scer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, lethality increasing with the number of copies of Rsf1Scer\UAS.cLa. Flies expressing Rsf1Scer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4 show complete loss of bristles. Late pupal lethality is also seen when Rsf1Scer\UAS.cLa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4. Embryonic lethality is seen when Rsf1Scer\UAS.cLa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32.

Flies expressing both B52Scer\UAS.cKa and Rsf1Scer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF survive to adulthood and have retina defects. Flies expressing both B52Scer\UAS.cKa and Rsf1Scer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4 are viable and show complete (10% of flies) or partial (90% of flies) rescue of the sensory bristle pattern.
