      Addition of E(spl)::HLHmδcNa to Nspl-1 flies enhances the "split" eye phenotype, in a manner indistinguishable from E(spl)1.tNa and which phenocopies E(spl)1. A substantial reduction is seen in the number of ommatidia and an increase in cell death, as concluded from the characteristic "blueberry" phenotype.
