In males expressing trblScer\UAS.P\T.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4bam.T:Hsim\VP16, 63% of germline cysts differentiate prematurely into spermatocytes at the 8-cell stage rather than the 16-cell stage.
Females expressing stgScer\UAS.P\T.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 have smaller ovaries than normal with a reduced number of egg chambers per ovariole. Most cysts contain 31 nurse cells and 1 oocyte, but a few contain 30 nurse cells and 2 oocytes. In cysts containing 2 oocytes, both oocytes have 5 ring canals, one ring canal is between the 2 oocytes and they appear equal in terms of morphology and yolk accumulation.
Scer\GAL4VP16.bam, trblUASp.cMa has decreased cell number phenotype, suppressible by bam[+]/bamΔ86
Scer\GAL4VP16.bam, trblUASp.cMa has spermatogonial cyst phenotype, suppressible by bam[+]/bamΔ86
The premature differentiation of 8-cell male germline cysts observed in animals expressing trblScer\UAS.P\T.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4bam.T:Hsim\VP16 is suppressed, from 63% to 10%, in a bamΔ86/+ mutant background, and the frequency of 16-cell cysts is increased from 37% to 87%.
