Expression of E(spl)m6-BFM coding region plus 6-10 nucleotides of 5' UTR (to ensure normal translation initiation) is governed by UASt regulatory sequences.
When expression is driven by Scer\GAL4sca-537.4 macrochaetae and microchaetae show a tufting phenotype. Supernumerary sensory organ precursors are specified within the proneural clusters. Chemosensory and stout mechanosensory bristles of the anterior wing margin are increased in density as are the campaniform sensillae of wing vein L3. A double shaft phenotype is common. These phenotypes are reflected in increased density of sensillum precursors. When expression is driven by Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 the wing margin is irregular but wing venation is relatively normal.
