FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.
hiwunspecified loss of function alleles show a large increase in the number of synaptic branches, and synaptic span, a small decrease in quantal size and a large decrease in quantal content.
hiwunspecified has synaptic vesicle phenotype, enhanceable by Scer\GAL4unspecified/GluRIIAM614R.UAS.Tag:MYC
hiwunspecified has synaptic vesicle phenotype, suppressible by fafBX4
hiwunspecified has synaptic vesicle phenotype, suppressible by fafFO8/fafBX4
hiwunspecified has synapse phenotype, non-suppressible by fafFO8/fafBX4
hiwunspecified has synapse phenotype, non-suppressible by fafBX4
The addition of either homozygous fafBX4, or fafBX4/fafFO8 suppresses the physiological phenotype of hiwunspecified, leading to a more tha doubling of both quantal content and mEJP frequency. However the synaptic overgrowth phenotype is not affected. The addition off GluRIIAM614R.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC to hiw mutants leads to a an 18% decrease in quantal size, no change in the size of the evoked response, and a compensatory 30% increase in quantal content.
