Embryos derived from hemizygous btz2 females have almost wild-type posterior patterning.

In stage 9 oocytes from btz2 homozygous germline clones, the accumulation of microtubule plus ends in the posterior of the oocyte fails to occur.

Ooplasmic streaming is normal at stage 9 and stage 10b in oocytes derived from homozygous female germline clones.

Embryos laid by btz2/Df(3R)IR16 or homozygous mutant mothers lack pole cells and develop an average of about 5 denticle belts. In btz2 Mutant ovaries the arrangement of microtubules appears normal.

btz2/+ increases the penetrance of the posterior patterning phenotype of embryos derived from Ge-1Δ5 female germline clones from 4% to 28.8%.

BicDD/btz2 double mutants exhibit a hatch-rate of 24%, compared to a hatch-rate of 60% in BicDD control strains. This decrease in hatch-rate indicates an enhancement of the BicDD phenotype by btz2.
