      Expression of gsbScer\UAS.cJa, under the control of Scer\GAL4twi.PG, causes an extreme change in the morphology and position of the salivary glands. The glands mismigrate and curl back upon themselves, giving them an accordion-like appearance.

      Pharate adults expressing gsbScer\UAS.cJa under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH show a headless phenotype. Four classes of phenotype are seen; class I pharate adults lack all head structures derived from the eye-antennal discs, class II consists of eyeless flies which lack most head structures and both antennae, class III consists of eyeless animals with large parts of the head missing but one or both antennae present and class IV consists of animals in which most of the head and one or both eyes of reduced size are present.

      The headless phenotype caused by expression of gsbScer\UAS.cJa under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH is partially rescued by coexpression of eyScer\UAS.cHa, resulting in small-eyed flies. The headless phenotype caused by expression of gsbScer\UAS.cJa under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH is not rescued by coexpression of toyScer\UAS.cJa.
