    Description

Two base insertion in the nct coding region fourth exon, which causes a frameshift after amino acid 373 resulting in a deletion of the C-terminal 323 amino acids of the protein, including the putative transmembrane domain.

    Comment:

A 2 base insertion in Nct coding region leads to a frameshift after aa 375. DDISNIKLH... becomes DDISNIISCMR... The position and identity of the inserted bases was inferred by a FlyBase curator.

    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

Embryos lacking both maternal and zygotic nct display a strong neurogenic phenotype. Somatic clones in the wing show typical N-like phenotypes, including notched wing margin, thickening of wing veins and the loss or duplication of sensory bristles. nct germ-line clones have no effect on follicle cell development in the ovary, though follicle cell clones show increased cell division and decreased cell size. These cells remain undifferentiated. Consequently the anterior-posterior axis of the oocyte fails to become established, and the germinal vesicle fails to migrate from the posterior to the anterior pole. In mutant clones in the follicle cells the normal organization of the spectrin cytoskeleton is disrupted.
