Imprecise excision, removing the P{EP}elBEP2039 element. All sequences between the P{EP}elBEP2039 insertion site and elB are intact. There has been a deletion of genomic sequences in the region upstream of the P{EP}elBEP2039 insertion site. In addition, sequences corresponding to the opus element are detected upstream of the P{EP}elBEP2039 insertion site in elBd47, suggesting that an inversion coupled to a deletion of sequences upstream of the P{EP}elBEP2039 insertion site may have occurred.
Homozygous embryos show defects in tracheal development; there is no migration of the lateral trunk anterior branch and the ganglionic branches are shorter than normal. The cells which fail to migrate into the lateral trunk remain in the transverse connective. The number of cells that form the dorsal trunk and visceral branch is normal. Dorsal branch migration is impaired and failure of dorsal branch fusion is seen at stage 16. The number of cells in the dorsal branch is sometimes reduced. In some segments, the dorsal branch cells migrate abnormally and fusion between laterally adjacent dorsal branches is seen.
elBd47 is partially rescued by Scer\GAL4btl.PS/elBUAS.cDa
Expression of elBScer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS completely rescues migration of the lateral trunk anterior branch in elBd47 embryos, and partially rescues dorsal branch migration.
