Site of nucleotide substitution in mutant inferred by FlyBase based on reported amino acid change.
Mosaic animals in which the head is homozygous for savshrp-4 (made using the "eyFLP" technique) have enlarged heads, but patterning of the head cuticle is unaffected. Homozygous clones in the eye disc result in a dramatic increase in the number of interommatidial cells compared to wild type. These extra interommatidial cells differentiate into pigment cells. The number of cells in clones in the third larval instar wing disc is generally larger than the number of cells in their wild-type twin clones. The population of cells in the mutant clones have the same distribution of cell cycle phases as the wild-type cells and they are normal in size.
