Longevity of flies carrying P{Sod2.9} is decreased by a mean of 4-5% relative to controls. Lines show no compensatory changes in metabolic rate, physical activity, or levels of other antioxidants. There was no change in the rate of mitochondrial hydrogen peroxide release, protein oxidative damage or resistance to 100% oxygen or starvation conditions. Lines did show a marginally increased resistance to moderate heat stress.
