Heterozygotes show no paralysis following mechanical stimulation. cpoEG1/cpo1 and cpoEG1/cpo2 flies have behavioural abnormalities in phototaxis, geotaxis, flight and recovery from ether. The flies are sluggish and show defects in mating vigour. 32% of cpoEG1/cpo1 flies show bang sensitive paralysis. cpoEG1/cpov3 flies do not show bang sensitive paralysis. cpoEG1/cpo1 and cpoEG1/cpo2 flies are more sensitive to seizures induced by a high frequency stimulus than wild-type flies; the mean seizure threshold is reduced compared to wild-type flies, to 11.1 +/- 3.7 V and 13.3 +/- 4.8 V respectively. The recovery period following seizure for cpoEG1/cpo1 and cpoEG1/cpo2 flies is 83.2 +/- 23.8 seconds and 98.6 +/- 15.0 seconds respectively, which is considerably longer than the recovery period of wild-type flies. The firing threshold of the giant fiber in cpoEG1/+, cpoEG1/cpo1 and cpoEG1/cpo2 flies is not significantly different from wild type. cpoEG1 acts as a dominant enhancer of seizure susceptibility; the cpoEG1/+ sdaiso7.8/+ double heterozygote has a seizure threshold of 14.4 +/- 3.1 V. The giant fiber-tergotrochanteral muscle (GF-TTM) response is abnormal cpoEG1/cpo1 flies; the wild-type short latency response is replaced by a longer latency response that cannot follow even moderate frequencies of stimulation. However, in response to direct electrical stimulation, the cpoEG1/cpo1 TTM is similar to wild type in latency and following frequency. The giant fiber-dorsal longitudinal muscle (GF-DLM) response in cpoEG1/cpo1 animals is normal in latency but impaired in following frequency. In response to direct electrical stimulation, the cpoEG1/cpo1 DLM is similar to wild type in latency and following frequency. cpo[+]/cpoEG1 is an enhancer of bang sensitive | dominant phenotype of jusiso7.8
cpo[+]/cpoEG1 is an enhancer of bang sensitive phenotype of jusiso7.8
cpo[+]/cpoEG1, easunspecified has bang sensitive | dominant phenotype
cpo[+]/cpoEG1, jusiso7.8 has abnormal neurophysiology | dominant phenotype
Selected as: a mutation that dominantly enhances the sdaiso7.8/+ bang sensitive phenotype.
Precise excision of the insertion reverts the phenotype to wild type. Allelic series: cpoEG1 >= cpol2 > cpo1 >= cpo2.
