Description

Sequence from +1.9kb to +2.6kb (coordinates relative to the eve transcription start site) of the eve genomic region has been deleted, thus sequences from -6.4kb to +1.9kb and from +2.6kb to +9.2kb of eve are present.

In eveΔEL/eveΔEL, Df(2R)eve/Df(2R)eve, stage 16 embryos, EL interneuron axons cross the midline normally but an increased proportion extend along both the intermediate and medial fascicles and some even project along the the intermediate and lateral fascicles. In stage 17 embryos, only a small proportion of EL interneuron axons reach the next segment.

In eveΔEL/eveΔEL, Df(2R)eve/Df(2R)eve and eveΔEL/eveΔEL, eve3/eve3 larvae, EL interneurons branch excessively off the main neurite near the soma and in the midline, which is never seen in controls; the axon is less extended than in controls, branching at ~40 microns from the soma; the dorsally projecting dendrites are significantly reduced and the ventrally projecting dendrites are significant increased. These eveΔEL/eveΔEL, Df(2R)eve/Df(2R)eve El interneurons fail to show a response to vibration/sound stimuli; their presynaptic nerve termini are found throughout the neuropile, rather than concentrated in the medial and intermediate zones.

eveΔEL/eveΔEL, Df(2R)eve/Df(2R)eve and eveΔEL/eveΔEL, Df(2R)eve/eve3 larvae show decreased crawling ability. eveΔEL/eveΔEL, Df(2R)eve/Df(2R)eve larvae show left-right asymmetrical body posture.
