botv423 homozygotes and botv2R24/botv423 transheterozygotes are lethal; botv423 maternal-zygotic homozygous embryos show severe cuticle defects, including fused denticle belts and loss of naked cuticle, as compared to controls.

botv423/botv510 animals die as pupae with small eyes and legs. Third instar larvae have smaller discs than the wild type, and in particular, their wing discs are narrower in an anterior-posterior direction. Tissue is deleted within somatic clones of botv423 homozygous cells in the adult wing.
