Homozygotes show prolonged larval development followed by lethality before pupation, severely reduced imaginal discs and brain, melanotic masses in the hemocoel, decondensed and disorganized chromosomes in all polytene cells examined, and ~40% smaller polytene chromosomes and nuclei in salivary glands compared to wild type.
