Salivary glands of eastScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP, Scer\GAL4smid-C161 pupae (18-19 hours after puparium formation) contain two types of cells: small cells lacking eastScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP expression with fragmented and condensed chromosomes, and larger cells maintaining high levels of eastScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP expression in which polytene chromosomes appear to have escaped from apoptotic fragmentation.
Expression of eastScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4unspecified in the salivary gland delays the destruction of salivary gland cells in the pupal stage: salivary gland cells can still be observed up to 24 hours after puparium formation in these animals.
Persistent expression of eastScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP, driven by Scer\GAL4da.G32, causes embryonic lethality.
