Homozygous larvae pupate on average 9.8 days after hatching, compared to an average of 8.2 days for control larvae. After pupation, the homozygotes develop melanotic bodies, probably due to necrotic tissue and they never eclose. A significant proportion of homozygous embryos are also lost. Some late third instar larvae also have melanotic bodies.
