Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

Hsp70Ba304 in the homozygous condition has no effect on within-individual variation quantified by fluctuating asymmetry (FA) of morphological traits. However, among-individual variation quantified by coefficient of variation (CV) of bristle number and wing size in female is significantly increased.

Df(3R)Hsp70A/Hsp70Ba304 flies show reduced thermotolerance compared to wild-type flies. When flies are pretreated at 35oC for 30 min, then moved to 39oC for analysis, wild-type flies can withstand 50-60 minutes before half of them are paralyzed, while Df(3R)Hsp70A/Hsp70Ba304 flies reach this point after ~30 min. Df(3R)Hsp70A/Hsp70Ba304 larvae show a small but significant reduction in viability in response to a 35oC 30-min pretreatment, followed by incubation at 39oC for 45 min, compared to wild-type larvae. This reduction in viability can be rescued by expression of two copies of the P{>whs,3Xwt70>A} transgene.

The cell death and pigment loss that occurs in the eyes flies expressing Hsap\MJDQ61.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, is enhanced in Df(3R)Hsp70A, Hsp70Ba304 flies.
