Deletion resulting from the imprecise excision of P{lacW}GmdSH1606 which takes out DNA encoding amino acids 2 to 202 as well all of the first and most of the second intron.
Homozygous Gmd1 mutants die as larvae and do not exhibit any neurogenic phenotypes. Neurogenic phenotypes are also absent in embryos that are both maternally and zygotically mutant for Gmd1 (generated using females carrying homozygous Gmd1 germline clones). These mutants die at the first instar larval stage.
Mutants can survive to the third larval instar. They show severely decreased growth of the wing disc.
