Description

Imprecise excision of the insertion in Gmd, resulting in a deletion of Gmd nucleotides 65 to 666, as well as all of the first and most of the second intron. This deletion removes sequences encoding amino acids 2 to 202 and results in the introduction of a stop codon after the first two amino acids.

Homozygous Gmd1 mutants die as larvae and do not exhibit any neurogenic phenotypes. Neurogenic phenotypes are also absent in embryos that are both maternally and zygotically mutant for Gmd1 (generated using females carrying homozygous Gmd1 germline clones). These mutants die at the first instar larval stage.

Mutants can survive to the third larval instar. They show severely decreased growth of the wing disc.
