Detailed Description
Statement

60% of embryonic cuticles produced by females homozygous for self04257 exhibit the moderately severe phenotype: ventral denticles are of narrower than normal width while the dorsally derived tracheal structures referred to as 'Filzkorper' are present. 39% of cuticles show the strongly dorsalized phenotype: they lack denticles but produce Filzkorper. Fewer than 1% of embryos are completely dorsalized, lacking both ventral denticles and Filzkorper. Fewer than 1% of embryos display the weakest phenotype: ventral denticle bands of normal width and Filzkorper are present, but embryos exhbit a tail-up or twisted phenotype.

Embryos produced by self04257 females exhibit appropriately polarized gastrulation movements and fail to show ventral mesoderm.

Females heterozygous for Tl3which are also homozygous for self04257 produce progeny with cuticles bearing rings of ventral denticles, like the progeny of females carrying Tl3 alone.

Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16-mediated expression of spzΔN.P\T.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-m6 in either self04257/+ or self04257/self04257 females leads to the formation of lateralized progeny embryos.

Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16-mediated expression of snkΔN.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP-m6 or eaΔN.P\T.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-m6 in self04257/+ females leads to the formation of apolar, lateralized embryos, whereas expressing either transgene in self04257/self04257 females produces strongly dorsalized progeny.

Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16-mediated expression of gdScer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP-m6 in self04257/+ females leads to the formation of lateralized and ventralized embryos, whereas expressing this transgene in self04257/self04257 females produces dorsalized progeny.
