Tailorf05717/Tailorc4-1 as well as Tailorf05717/Tailorc4-6 transheterozygotes show significant decrease in both male and female fertility compared to controls.

The germline stem cell (GSCs) niche in the Tailorf05717/Tailorc4-6 testes is not apparently perturbed and the number of GSCs contacting the somatic hub is similar to wild-type controls but the spermatid differentiation is impaired: the mutants display mild individualization complex scattering during the individualization process. The mutants also show smaller seminal vesicles (reflecting the reduction in sperm production) compared to controls.

The subfertility of Tailorf05717/Tailorc4-1 or Tailorf05717/Tailorc4-6 mutants and of the Dis3l2SK5 homozygous mutants is exacerbated further in double mutants and the Tailorf05717/Tailorc4-1;Dis3l2SK5/Dis3l2SK5 or Tailorf05717/Tailorc4-6;Dis3l2SK5/Dis3l2SK5 double mutants are completely sterile.

The spermatid differentiation defects observed in testes of Tailorf05717/Tailorc4-6 mutant males are enhanced by combination with two copies of Dis3l2SK5 : Like in the Dis3l2SK5 single mutants, no cystic bulges or waste bags are formed and the double mutants bear only rudimentary seminal vesicles devoid of mature sperm.
