eIF-4E^1.Scer\UAS; Scer\GAL4^nos.PG causes 20% embryonic lethality at 29^oC. 1st instar cuticles from these animals show segmentation defects. eIF-4E^1.Scer\UAS; Scer\GAL4^en-e16E causes lethality at the syncytial blastoderm stage if the embyos are kept at 29^oC or 25^oC. However, development of these animals is normal if they are kept at 17^oC for the first 72 hours of development. eIF-4E^1.Scer\UASX2 adults with Scer\GAL4^hs.2sev or Scer\GAL4^GMR.PF have overgrowth in the eye, disruption of ommatidial pattern and ectopic interommatidial bristle.
