Imprecise excision of the P{EP}Tsp42EjEP2425 insertion has deleted a 1.8kb segment that starts upstream of the first exon and removes about half of the Tsp42Ej coding sequence.
The reduction in electroretinogram (ERG) amplitude seen in flies exposed to constant light is partly suppressed by Tsp42Ej1. However, retinal degeneration and rate of loss of the deep pseudopupil in Tsp42Ej1 flies exposed to constant light is the same as that seen in wild-type flies exposed to constant light.
Mutant animals exhibit light and age dependant retinal degeneration. This degeneration is first evident in the cell bodies.
