Identification: In a comprehensive microarray analysis for eye-enriched genes in the Drosophila genome, to identify new loci implicated in visual transduction or retinal degeneration. Tsp42Ej is a member of the tetraspanin protein encoding family.
Tsp42Ej may attenuate signaling from light illumination through down regulation of the rhodopsin level.
Mutation of Tsp42Ej locus induced slow, light dependent retinal degeneration. This rescue of photoresponse appeared to result from rescue of rhodopsin protein level.
