Rme-8A9 eye clones often lack complete complement of photoreceptor cells. In mosaic clusters with a normal complement of photoreceptors, the size of rhabdomeres in mutant cells is consistently smaller than those of wild-type cells. Furthermore, the organisation of regular ommatidial array in these mutant tissues is disrupted. Endocytosis is inhibited in the early stages in Rme-8C19/Rme-8A9 mutants. The organisation of endosomal compartments is disrupted in Rme-8A9 mutant Garland cell clones.
