Dscam39/Dscam47 third instar larvae show defects in axon organisation in the peduncle of the developing mushroom body; in contrast to wild type, multiple phalloidin-positive core fibers are seen in the mutant peduncle in 26% of cases.
Core fibers in the mushroom body lobes of Dscam39/Dscam47 third instar larvae are highly disorganised and branches frequently fail to segregate to distinct lobes. The dorsal and medial lobes collapse onto each other in 82% of cases.
