Description

The upstream Traf4 promoter is deleted in Traf4ex1 mutants, while the downstream promoter is intact.

Imprecise excision of the P{EP} element, resulting in deletion of a 2.8kb region starting from the point of the original insertion.

Detailed Description

Reference

Homozygous Traf4ex1 mutant embryos appear normal.

Traf1ex1 larvae contain small imaginal discs; the eye disc is especially small. Photoreceptor axons in Traf1ex1 larvae form few axonal bundles and fail to defasciculate the brain hemisphere. The brain-ventral ganglia complex shows no apparent defects.

Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

Retinal degeneration and light-response defects are strongly suppressed in ninaEP37H, ninaE17, Traf4ex1/+ flies.

The small-eye phenotype caused by expression of egrScer\UAS.cIa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF is not suppressed by Traf4ex1/+.

Expression of bskDN.Scer\UAS, under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544, in a Traf1ex1/+ background results in an enhancement of the thorax closure defect seen in Scer\GAL4ap-md544>bskDN.Scer\UAS flies. The Scer\GAL4ap-md544>bskDN.Scer\UAS, Traf1ex1 flies have a larger cleft and the notum structure is disrupted.

Comments

Traf4ex1 is viable over deficiencies that remove Traf4 indicating that the lethality associated with Traf4 may not be due to the Traf4 locus.
