      btl724 mutant embryos show severely reduced (but not entirely abolished) primary tracheal branching.

      btl724 mutants do not exhibit tracheal terminal cells.

      Mosaic tracheal branches (containing wild-type, heterozygous and homozygous cells) are grossly normal, but homozygous mutant clones rarely, if ever, include terminal cells. Control clones in mosaic dorsal tracheal branches are evenly distributed throughout the branch at the expected frequencies (the ratio of stalk-cell to terminal-cell clones is approximately 3:1 ), however, homozygous cells show a nearly complete bias against the DB1 position (the ratio of stalk-cell to terminal-cell clones is approximately 51:1 ).

      btlBN/btl724 larvae lack dorsal tracheal branches.
