Overexpression of MlfScer\UAS.cFa under the control of Scer\GAL4lz-gal4 does not seem to affect crystal cell number or differentiation in either the embryo or the larva.

Expression of MlfScer\UAS.cFa under the control of Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1 at 29oC results in lethality. At 25oC, animals with wing and thorax defects are produced; the L3-L4 intervein region is shortened, the crossvein normally found between veins L3 and L4 is absent and there is loss of macrochaetae in the scutellum.

Expression of MlfScer\UAS.cFa under the control of Scer\GAL4vg.PM results in partial loss of the wing margin.

Expression of MlfScer\UAS.cFa under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 results in flies with a reduced and disorganized wing. The phenotype is more severe at 29oC than at 25oC.

Expression of MlfScer\UAS.cFa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E results in a reduced posterior compartment in the adult wing.

Wing discs expressing MlfScer\UAS.cFa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E show a much higher level of apoptosis in the posterior compartment (where Scer\GAL4en-e16E is expressed) compared to the anterior compartment. There is also an increased in the number of cells in S phase in the posterior compartment compared to the anterior compartment in these discs.

Expression of MlfScer\UAS.cFa under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH results in reduced eyes with a mild rough phenotype. There is a reduction in the number of ommatidia, bristles can be missing or duplicated, and fusions of ommatidia are occasionally seen.

Expression of a single copy MlfScer\UAS.cFa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF has no observable effect on the eye. Expression of two copies of MlfScer\UAS.cFa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in a variable mutant eye phenotype. In severely affected animals, the eye is reduced and glossy with a partial and irregular loss of pigmentation and necrotic spots. In less severely affected animals, ommatidial fusions, partial loss of pigmentation and a few necrotic spots are seen.

The severity of the mutant eye phenotype caused by expression of two copies of MlfScer\UAS.cFa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF is increased by Su(fu)LP/Su(fu)LP.

Xenogenetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

Co-expression of MlfScer\UAS.cFa results in a strong suppression of the mutant eye phenotype caused by expression of Hsap\ATXN3tr.Q78.Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF. The reduction in life span that is seen in flies expressing Hsap\ATXN3tr.Q78.Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.Switch.PO in the presence of RU486 is partially rescued by co-expression of MlfScer\UAS.cFa.

Complementation and Rescue Data
Comments

Expression of MlfScer\UAS.cFa under the control of Scer\GAL4lz-gal4 rescues the crystal cell phenotype of both MlfΔ5-3/MlfΔC1 and homozygous MlfΔ5-3 mutants.
