Flies expressing DmtnGD2834 in the glia under the control of Scer\GAL4repo are semi-lethal; ~20% of larvae eclose. The optic lobes are severely reduced in size, and missing much of the medulla neuropil. The same phenotypes are observed when DmtnGD2834 is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4Dmtn-NP6590, with 90.4% of flies failing to eclose. The optic lobe defects are weaker than under the control of Scer\GAL4repo. No lethality or optic lobe defects are observed when DmtnGD2834 is expressed in neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155.

10 and 30 day old flies expressing DmtnGD2834 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 have normal lifespans compared to controls.

Adults expressing DmtnGD2834 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu (in the presence of Dcr-2Scer\UAS.cDa to increase the efficiency of RNAi) do not show a significant defect in avoidance of noxious temperature (46[o]C) compared to control flies.

Expression of DmtnGD2834 partially suppresses the predominantly male semi-lethality seen when Hsap\APP695.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC is expressed in neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 (co-expressed with Dcr-2Scer\UAS.cDa). The wing expansion defects are enhanced compared to expression of DmtnGD2834 alone.
