Expression of Gdap1GD10713 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU results in age-dependent loss of photoreceptors, which is higher than that seen in control flies at both 1 week and 5 weeks of age. 1 week old flies show a loss of the rhabdomere terminal web region compared to controls and show rhabdomere degeneration and 5 week old flies have large, elongated and misplaced mitochondria next to the rhabdomere. The lamina cartridge is reduced in size, has abnormal morphology and has a smaller axonal profile than normal in both 1 week and 5 week old flies. The average area of the capitate projections is larger than normal in 1 week old flies.
Old flies expressing Gdap1GD10713 under the control of Scer\GAL4Mhc.PU often have a held-up wing phenotype.
1 week old flies expressing Gdap1GD10713 under the control of Scer\GAL4Mhc.PU show degeneration of the longitudinal indirect flight muscles and there is an accumulation of partially fused mitochondria. At 5 weeks of age, there is more severe muscle degeneration and extremely large and elongated mitochondria are seen.
Adults expressing Gdap1GD10713 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu (in the presence of Dcr-2Scer\UAS.cDa to increase the efficiency of RNAi) do not show a significant defect in avoidance of noxious temperature (46[o]C) compared to control flies.
