Homozygous larvae are much smaller than control larvae of the same age and the larvae die as first instar larvae after surviving for approximately 1 week.

Homozygous clones in the wing contain only one of two cells in contrast to the large control twin spots. Homozygous germline clones cannot be obtained.

When homozygous clones are induced in polyploid cells in the larval salivary glands, the network of mitochondria in these cells appears less developed than in wild type and there is weakened Mitotracker Red staining, indicating a reduction in mitochondrial activity.
