    Detailed Description

    Reference

Blockade of all &agr';β' Kenyon cells (by expressing the temperature sensitive shits.UAS.cUa under the control of Scer\GAL4G0050 and shifted to the permissive 33[o]C) decreases olfactory medium term memory (1h) when experiment is carried out in crowded (groups of 32 flies - socially facilitated memory) and uncrowded conditions (groups of 4 flies); this memory is cold-shock anesthesia.

Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 32[o]C) of Scer\GAL4G0050 cells in adults significantly reduces startle-induced climbing behavior, compared to controls.

Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 32[o]C) of Scer\GAL4G0050 cells in adults significantly reduces startle-induced climbing behavior, compared to controls.

Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 33[o]C) of Scer\GAL4G0050 cells in adults significantly reduces short term (5 min) aversive olfactory memory, including its anaesthesia-resistant component, compared to controls; inhibition during testing does not affect 30 min or 3 h aversive olfactory memory, but significantly reduces 24 h (after massed training) memory, compared to controls; inhibition does not affect olfactory acuity, compared to controls; inhibition of a subset of Scer\GAL4G0050 cells in adults (restricted using Scer\GAL80Mef2.mb247) during testing does not affect 24 h (after massed training) memory, compared to controls.
