Expression of caddsRNA.397.UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4NP0001, in combination with a Gal80[ts] transgene to restrict expression to the adult stage, reduces lifespan, compared to controls.

Flies expressing caddsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of one of Scer\GAL4da.G32, Scer\GAL4cad-em459 or Scer\GAL4c729 show gut epithelial cell apoptosis at day 18 after eclosion (this cell death is not seen in control flies of the same age). The commensal bacterial population in the intestine is altered compared to wild type in these flies.

Flies expressing caddsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4c729 show reduced survival rates over time compared to control flies.

Flies expressing caddsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4c729 do not show gut epithelial cell apoptosis and show normal survival levels if they have been treated to make them germ-free.
