Detailed Description

Homozygotes die mostly at the larval stage.

Mosaic flies with eye and head capsules largely homozygous for bunA-149B (generated using the eyFLP/FRT technique) have small heads ("pinhead" phenotype). The number of ommatidia in these mosaics is significantly reduced compared to wild type and the mutant photoreceptors are smaller than the surrounding heterozygous cells.

bunA-149B/Df(2L)Exel6033 larvae develop more slowly than normal and die during the second and third larval instars.

Heterozygous and bunA-149B/bunGE12327 males and females show a reduction in body weight compared to controls.

Heterozygous and bunA-149B/bunGE12327 females show a reduction in ommatidia number and size compared to controls.
