Imprecise excision of the progenitor insertion, resulting in a deletion which removes the complete dm open reading frame (the deletion extends from nucleotide 3266984 to nucleotide 3294554, and retains a non-coding internal segment from nucleotide 3281749 to to nucleotide 3281896,). Some P-element derived sequences remain.
