The expression of alienHM05119 under the control of Scer\GAL4ppl.PP leads to fewer peripheral lipid droplets in the third instar larval fat body. Larvae show lower survival to starvation, compared to controls.

Expression of alienHM05119 under the control of any of the cyst cell drivers Scer\GAL4tj-NP1624, Scer\GAL4A3.eya or Scer\GAL4c784 (limited to a week from eclosion onwards using Scer\GAL80ts.αTub84B) results in a 100% penetrant testes phenotype that is never observed in controls. The apical region of the testis contain large areas containing gonialblasts and spermatogonia, and the rest of the testis is filled with cell debris. No spermatocytes are seen and, as in wild type, germline stem cells are only observed next to the hub. The net-like somatic support cell cytoplasmic extensions usually seen surrounding the germline cells are not observed (only very few and short cytoplasmic extensions are seen), but the support cells themselves are readily detectable. Loss of cytoplasmic extensions is seen very quickly after the onset of alienHM05119 expression, and there is no evidence of cell death. The ability of the somatic cells to divide by mitosis is unaffected.

The double expression of mdyUAS.cHa with alienHM05119 under the control of Scer\GAL4ppl.PP leads to enlarged lipid droplets in the third instar larval fat body; there are fewer peripheral lipid droplets.

The double expression of Rdh1TH01566.N with alienHM05119 under the control of Scer\GAL4ppl.PP leads to small lipid droplets in the fat body of third instar larvae fed on a high-fat diet.
