One-day old flies in which PldScer\UAS.La is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4unspecified display early stages of degeneration and are typically missing one rhabdomere per ommatidium. Two-days post-eclosion, these flies display clear retinal degeneration, with the numbers and sizes of the rhabdomeres greatly reduced. The degeneration gradually progresses until nearly all of the rhabdomeres disappear in seven-day old PldScer\UAS.La Scer\GAL4unspecified flies.
Expression of any of three different PldScer\UAS.cLa transgenic lines under the simultaneous control of both P{GAL4-nos.NGT}40 and P{GAL4-nos.NGT}A results in embryonic lethality (averaging 30.4%).
Expression of any of three different PldScer\UAS.cLa transgenic lines under the control of P{GAL4-nos.NGT}11 results in viable flies.
Expression of PldScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PD results in progressive retinal degeneration when flies are raised under a 12 hour light/12 hour dark cycle: after 21 days, there is a clear loss of photoreceptor cells and increased intracellular vacuoles relative to controls. Maintaining these flies in the dark substantially decreases the severity of the phenotype.
Flies expressing PldScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PD and raised under continuous light show some retinal degeneration after 1 day, and show severe retinal degeneration after 3 days - reduced rhabdomeres and degenerating photoreceptor cell bodies are visible.
Scer\GAL4ninaE.PD/PldUAS.cLa is a suppressor of abnormal neurophysiology phenotype of rdgB9
Scer\GAL4ninaE.PD/PldUAS.cLa is a non-suppressor of abnormal neurophysiology phenotype of norpAEE5

Retinal degeneration is significantly reduced in 2-day-old PldScer\UAS.La (Scer\GAL4unspecified) ; laza1 flies relative to PldScer\UAS.La (Scer\GAL4unspecified flies. Suppression is detected in 3-day-old flies, however, by 7 days post-eclosion, the differences between PldScer\UAS.La (Scer\GAL4unspecified and PldScer\UAS.La (Scer\GAL4unspecified ; laza1 flies are not significant.
The absence of light-stimulated change in the membrane potential of retinal photoreceptors in norpA7 flies is not rescued by expressing PldScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PD.
Expression of PldScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PD partially suppresses the norpA7 retinal degeneration phenotype.
The retinal degeneration phenotype observed upon expression of PldScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PD when flies are raised under continuous light for 1 day is suppressed in a trp1 mutant background.
Expression of PldScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PD suppresses the defective light response phenotype of 1 day-old rdgB9 mutants.
The retinal degeneration phenotype observed upon expression of PldScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PD when flies are raised under continuous light for 1 or 3 days is suppressed in a rdgB9 mutant background. Conversely, expression of PldScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PD does not prevent or slow the rate of retinal degeneration seen in rdgB9 flies.
