Expression of NT1Cysknot.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 improves the longevity of adult flies: their median survival is significantly increased compared to controls at both 25[o]C and 29[o]C. However, the locomotor ability (climbing velocity) of adult flies is not significantly different from wild-type controls and also does not decline with age more than in wild-type.

Expression of NT1Cysknot.Scer\UAS in the embryonic nervous system under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 results in a significant reduction in apoptosis levels compared to wild-type.

Expression of NT1Cysknot.Scer\UAS in the embryonic nervous system midline under the control of Scer\GAL4sim.PS results in a significant reduction in apoptosis levels compared to wild-type, implying that NT1 is normally present in limiting amounts at this target.

The short lifespan of adult flies expressing Hsap\APPArctic.Scer\UAS.T:SS-nec under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 (cultured at either 25[o]C or 29[o]C) is significantly lengthened by co-expression of NT1Cysknot.Scer\UAS. The impaired locomotor ability of Hsap\APPArctic.Scer\UAS.T:SS-nec expressing adults is also partially ameliorated by co-expression of NT1Cysknot.Scer\UAS.
