45% of larpS022529/larpmtr-null females are sterile.

Eggs laid by larpS022529/larpmtr-null females show a number of defects during syncytial divisions, including chains of linked spindles and free centrosomes. Time-lapse imaging shows that centrosomes can be seen to successfully duplicate following the previous division cycle, however the movement of the centrosomes around the nuclear membrane is hindered. Nonetheless, a spindle forms between the two groups of centrosomes. Nuclear spacing is also disrupted.

31.4% of onion stage spermatids show abnormalities in larpmtr1/larp06487 males. Of these abnormal cells, 52.0% show abnormal cell numbers or size, 35.0% have abnormal Nebenkern numbers or size, 13.0% show a failure of cytokinesis and 3.4% have multiple abnormalities.
