During oogenesis, phosphorylation on Ser-1119 by Pink1 at the outer membrane of defective mitochondria, impairs its ability to promote local translation and mtDNA replication thus reducing transmission of deleterious mtDNA mutations to the mature oocyte (PubMed:30772175).
