G to A change which disrupts the 3' splice acceptor site.
Homozygotes reach the third instar larval stage at 2 days after hatching (as do wild-type controls). However, they show a slower growth rate than normal and most die without pupating. A small number of the mutant larvae survive for several days but never develop into pupae.
Mutant second instar larvae have small wing discs with an abnormal shape.
Females containing homozygous germline clones are sterile.
Homozygous somatic clones in the follicle cells are detected up to the two-cell stage, but when examined several days after clone induction, the homozygous clones have disappeared (leaving only the wild-type twin spot).
Homozygous somatic clones are not recovered in the eye or imaginal discs.
