Expression of kirredsRNA.Scer\UAS in the eye under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF causes mild eye defects. Typically, bristle groups and inter-ommatidial cells are mis-positioned although ommatidia remain well separated as in wild-type.

In each case, ommatidial spacing is nonetheless nearly indistinguishable from single knock-down of sns alone.
Reduction of both hbs and kirre expression through kirredsRNA.Scer\UAS and hbsIR.Scer\UAS expression under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF enhances slightly the patterning defects seen in kirre down-regulation. Depletion occasionally leads to inter-ommatidial cells occurring in multiple rows between ommatidia. In each case, ommatidial spacing is nonetheless nearly indistinguishable from single knock-down of hbs alone.
Reduction of both rst and kirre expression through kirredsRNA.Scer\UAS and rstGD2582 expression under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF significantly enhances the patterning defects seen in rst down-regulation: 36.6% of ommatidia are found in direct contact with another ommatidium. Inter-ommatidial cells show little evidence of sorting into a single file.
