Flies expressing nsl1NIG.4699R under the control of Scer\GAL4Mef2.247 show a 25% reduction in learning compared to controls in a courtship conditioning assay.
Expression of wahNIG.4699R with Scer\GAL4C57 results in muscles that are easily overstretched and tend to snap upon dissection of late larvae, although sarcomere structure is not overtly affected. Ultrastructurally, these muscles show an increase in surface invaginations and the presence of prominent densely packed composite bodies, termed 'sausage bodies', composed of electron dense elongated tubules of the several micrometres long and of a constant diameter of 37+/-0.5nm. Sausage bodies are predominantly localised in the sarcoplasm and rarely in sarcomeres.
Expression of wahNIG.4699R in late larval muscles using Scer\GAL4C57 also induces ubiquitin aggregates/puncta in the muscles, predominantly in the sarcoplasm and rarely in sarcomeres.
nsl1NIG.4699R is rescued by nsl1UAS.Tag:HA/Scer\GAL4C57
Coexpression of wahScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA completely rescues the sausage body and ubiquitin puncta phenotypes induced by Scer\GAL4C57-mediated expression of wahNIG.4699R.
